Your support is needed in order to help all of our students become dependable and responsible citizens. It is imperative that we work as a team made up of children, their families, and the school community. We feel that appropriate behavior at school is important to create a pleasant place for your child to learn and grow.
Freshwater Vision:
Freshwater School, in partnership with district families, will provide a positive, safe, and caring environment which nurtures the intellectual, physical, emotional, and moral capacities of each child, so that each child can lead a fulfilling life as a productive worker, citizen, and individual.
In order to meet the needs of our Freshwater community, everyone will:
- Be Safe
- Be Respectful
- Be Responsible
Examples of these rules are:
- Stay in designated areas.
- Walk in classrooms and hallways.
- Follow directions.
- Use appropriate voice level and language.
- Keeps hands, feet, objects to self.
- Show respect for others and property.
- Do not tease, gossip, threaten, or harass others.
- No violence: real or pretend.
The Freshwater staff works diligently to recognize and reinforce appropriate student behaviors. Our goal is to bring out the best in each child.
Behavior Incentives & Consequences
Incentives:
Children who help keep Freshwater a safe, pleasant placeto be are recognized and encouraged by a variety of classroom and school-wide incentives that include positive verbal praise, Dolphin Recesses, Caught You Being Good Tickets, Bingo/Movie Parties and more.
Consequences:
THINK SHEETS are a strategy that we use to help students become aware of their actions and take responsibility and ownership of the consequences that are associated.
A student will receive a “think sheet” each time a school rule is broken. It will be filled out at school and then sent home to be signed by a parent or guardian and then returned to school. Please use this opportunity to speak with your child about why the behavior wasn’t safe, respectful, or responsible.
VIOLATIONS are used for more serious behaviors. Violations will be issued to any student who violates the following school rules:
- Physical fighting or threats of violence.
- Willful destruction of property.
- Blatant defiance or disrespect of any school personnel.
- Theft of personal or school property.
School personnel reserve the right to issue a violation when they deem it necessary, including when a student has been issued multiple Think Sheets, yet the behavior has not changed.
The consequences for receiving a violation in a given month are as follows:
First Offense: Violation form is filled out, student is benched for remaining time of activity, and parent is contacted by phone.
Second Offense: Violation is filled out, student is benched for remaining time of activity, parent is contacted by phone, and student receives 1 days of detention.
Third Offense: Violation is filled out, student is benched for remaining time of activity, parent is contacted by phone, and student receives 2 days of detention. A parent conference will be scheduled with the teacher and principal.
